It's almost hump day Wednesday...and that means it's almost Wednesday Wing Night! It used to be hard to find good wings in Seoul, but now western style chicken wings are everywhere here too! I love Korean fried chicken too (post to come on that soon), but chicken wings hit a different kind of craving. Some places here have wing night on Tuesday or Thursday, but I think Wednesday Wing Night has a nice ring to it.
Here are some of my favourite and not-so-favourite places in Seoul out of the places I've tried! Most will be the original buffalo style chicken wing or different flavours of that variation except for this first place.
#1. @Vatos Urban Tacos - Honey Tequila Chicken Wings
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Best fusion chicken wings! (any day)
#2. @Oasis on Yongsan Garrison Military Base
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! Best buffalo/honey garlic wing (if you can get on base)!
#3. @Bull & Barrel.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! The best variety of chicken wings! (any day, especially on Wednesday Wing night)
Not So Recommended - I don't usually waste time posting on places I don't recommend, but I'll throw these in the bunch since I've tried all of them anyhow.
@Route 66 - They have a pizza special on Wednesday (a slice being 1000won w. a drink), but their wings special is actually on Tuesdays - 4000won for 10 regular wings or 1/2 lb boneless. I wonder why places do wing specials on Tuesdays instead of Wing Wednesday? Tuesdays should be Taco Tuesdays!
Dislikes: Didn't come out hot, the wings were small and a bit over-fried.
@Napkin Please - Amongst all of their other American dishes, the wings weren't quite up to par. They were also fairly small in comparison to Bull & Barrel and of course the Oasis on base. The dipping sauce was a garlic mayo - which was great, but didn't go with the wings as well as blue cheese dip would.
Dislikes: They were overly spicy and overly vinegary. I can eat spicy, but these were a bit over the top for a buffalo wing.
@Brick Oven NYC Pizzeria - I would go for their margarita pizzas and fries, but not the wings. Tiny wings and nothing memorable.
Dislikes: Wings are too small, batter was a bit soggy, ranch sauce instead of blue cheese, no carrot sticks.
@Chili King - Tuesday night half off on starter specials: 5500won for a basket of wings.
Not bad, interesting. The Thai wings taste just like chicken wings covered in green curry. The Crazy Cajun were salty and well flavoured.
Other places that I've tried, but I don't have pictures:
- Sam Ryan's Pub
- Rocky Mountain Tavern.......(I used to go there a few times, but I stopped going there after I had a pubic hair in my wings and they weren't too apologetic about it...)
Where have you had western style chicken wings? Let me know where your favourite place is!
