These days in Seoul, there are many new and improved pizza places in that are trying to be more authentic rather than the regular chains like Pizza Hut, Mr. Pizza and Papa John's. I love pizza and have tried many places ranging from from Pizza D'Buzza , NYC Brick Oven Pizzeria, The Booth all the way down to Pizza School (more blog posts on each of those places coming soon). However, everyone will have their opinion about where the best pizza place is. I don't think you can generalise there only being one best because there are so many different types out there. ie. Chicago deep dish, NYC style, Italian thick crust, thin crispy crust, thin chewy crust....heck, even every region in Italy does their pizza differently!
For now, I would like to highlight "Al Matto" in HBC as my current new favourite pizza place for a "thin chewy crust Italian style pizza in Korea". The prices are very reasonable, it's a chill atmosphere, and the pizzas were great! I definitely want to come back to try other things on their menu!
Pizza Proscuitto and Funghi: Proscuitto, delicious fresh mushrooms, tomato sauce and mozzarella. The quality of proscuitto and freshness of the mushrooms made this a solid pizza choice. Just the right amount of well seasoned tomato sauce and gooey cheese.
Pizza Proscuitto and Funghi: I would definitely order this kind again.
Crust - thin and chewy. Not burnt to a crisp edge or soggy centre like some other places!
Pizza Alberto: Tomato Sauce, mozzarella, bacon, pepper, onion, mushroom and FRENCH FRIES! You may think it's a weird combination, but it was fantastic. The fries were piping hot and crispy too!
Pizza Alberto: This is a popular menu item here - and I would recommend it too if you are looking for something slightly different than the original classic flavours.
They opened up the patio/windows and now, unfortunately, allow smoking.
No pets allowed.
Try to go at off peak hours. The place itself is small and I hear there are crazy lines at peak hours. We went in the late evening of a Sunday and got seated right away!
Perhaps because it wasn't too busy at the time we went, but the servers were really nice and attentive.
Had their house red wine to go with the pizzas. Great combo, and pretty good for a house wine!
They open until pretty late on weekdays, and really late on Fridays/Saturdays - so you can go for a late night meal and drinks too!
Their menus are in English and Korean.
Pizza Special's on Monday-Wednesdays!
